Non-LED Bird Flight Diverter
The Non-LED Bird Flight Diverter.
Nothing to Charge. Nothing to Service.
A fully passive bird flight diverter built around retroreflective inserts and photoluminescent glow polymer — no battery, no solar panel, no active component to inspect or replace. Engineered as the standard, lowest-cost specification for large-scale, network-wide deployment.

Under the Housing
Two Materials.
Zero Moving Partsto Fail.
The Non-LED diverter achieves round-the-clock passive visibility through two complementary materials science approaches, housed in a sealed, UV-stabilised polymer body with no electronics of any kind.
Retro-Reflective Technology
Micro-prismatic reflective inserts return incoming light directly back toward its source, producing a sharp, high-contrast flash visible to birds in daylight and to vehicle or aircraft lighting at range.
Reflective Area
5,500mm²+ per face
Material
Micro-prismatic sheeting
Colour
High-visibility red/white
Glow Material
Photoluminescent polymer absorbs ambient daylight and gradually releases it after dusk, extending passive visibility into the low-light hours when large-bird flight activity and collision risk both rise.
Glow Area
12,000mm²+ per face
Charge Method
Passive, ambient light
Afterglow Duration
Several hours post-dusk
Maintenance-Free Design
With no battery, charging circuit or moving electronic part, there is nothing for field crews to inspect, replace or service — reflectivity and glow performance are built into the material itself, not a component that degrades or fails.
Active Components

Total Cost of Ownership
The Lowest Cost
Per Span, Per Year.
Removing the battery and charging system does more than simplify the device — it removes an entire category of field cost. No inspection cycle, no replacement schedule, no risk of a discharged unit going dark on a live line.

No Field Inspection Circuit

Why These Specifications Matter
Retroreflection handles daylight visibility; glow polymer extends that into dusk and early night — both are material properties, not components that can short-circuit, drain, or corrode.
At under 350g, the Non-LED diverter adds minimal load to the conductor — a meaningful factor across long spans with many devices installed per kilometre.
With nothing to charge, inspect, or replace, the Non-LED model removes an entire category of recurring O&M cost across a network-wide deployment.
The housing and reflective materials are formulated to resist embrittlement and fade across a 15-year minimum service life under continuous outdoor UV exposure.
The 5mm–38mm universal clamp is shared with the LED and Aero Spin models, so mixed specification along one line uses one hardware standard.
Installation
Hot-Stick Installation,
No Orientation Required
With no solar panel to align, the Non-LED diverter’s field installation is the simplest in the range. The sequence below outlines the standard process; full procedure documentation is available in the installation guide.
Confirm the mounting point against the site’s diverter spacing plan and identify the conductor or earth wire diameter to verify clamp fit before mobilisation.
Position and close the universal clamp on the energised conductor using standard hot-stick tooling, per the crew’s live-line work procedure.
Confirm secure seating and correct clamp closure — rated to withstand over 100kg of pull force without slip — before withdrawing the hot stick.
Confirm the flapper rotates freely and reflective faces are unobstructed. No electrical or charging checks are required — the device is functional from the moment of installation.
Where Non-LED Is Specified
The Standard Choice for
Network-WideDeployment
Standard Transmission Spans
The default specification across the majority of a network’s route length, where risk is present but not at hotspot severity.
Bird Sanctuary Buffer Zones
Reliable, zero-maintenance protection across long buffer-zone spans surrounding protected wetlands and sanctuaries.
Remote & Hard-to-Access Lines
Hill-crossing and forest-corridor spans where a battery-free device removes the need for periodic maintenance visits.
Budget-Constrained Rollouts
Large-scale procurement programmes where lowest cost per unit and zero recurring O&M cost are procurement priorities.
Sub-Transmission & Distribution
Lower-voltage networks with high route-length and device count, where the lightest, lowest-cost model keeps procurement proportionate.

Non-LED Diverter,
Answered
Technical questions specific to the Non-LED model — from glow performance to when it’s the right specification over LED.
Does the Non-LED diverter need any maintenance?
No. With no battery, charging circuit or active component, there is nothing to inspect, replace or service over the unit’s 15-year minimum design life beyond routine visual checks during regular line patrols.
How does the glow material work without a battery? >
The photoluminescent polymer absorbs ambient daylight and gradually releases it after dusk, providing several hours of passive visibility during dawn, dusk and early night without any power source or active circuitry.
Does the glow or reflective performance fade over time? >
Both materials are UV-stabilised and formulated for outdoor service across the full 15-year design life. Performance is expected to remain within specification for the warranty period under normal environmental exposure.
When should I choose Non-LED over the LED model? >
Non-LED is the standard specification for the majority of a network’s route length — anywhere daylight-dominant visibility and zero maintenance outweigh the need for active night-time illumination. The LED model is reserved for identified high-risk hotspots such as GIB corridors and nocturnal migratory crossings.
Can the Non-LED diverter be installed on an energised line? >
Yes. The clamp geometry is compatible with hot-stick installation procedures used by trained live-line crews, allowing retrofit deployment on energised conductors without a planned outage.
